Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre
Wakefield, South Island, New Zealand
Situated along the boundaries to Kahurangi National Park and easily accessible from Nelson, Motueka and Golden Bay, Wangapeka’s focus and activities is on ‘inquiry’.
The lineage teacher for the center was Ven. Namgyal Rinpoché, a Canadian, whose teachings blended Theravada and Karma Kagyu traditions.
Personal retreatants at Wangapeka stay in huts that are self catering. However if staying longer than a week you need to prove that you are under the direction of a teacher, as there is no resident teacher at Wangapeka.
There is also an option for work exchange – three hours work per day plus food costs in exchange for lodging.
Bodywork groups and spiritual and /or religious groups are welcome to use the facility, but each group and retreat must be approved by the board.
Groups can use the Mediation Hall or the Healing Hut for classes.
Accommodations are available indoors for up to 25 people plus room for camping. Lodging includes single rooms, dorm style rooms and cabins.
Wangapeka also produces its own series of meditation retreats. Please see their website for their upcoming calendar.
