In 1995 my father died, and I was in despair. Someone mentioned there was a prayer center in Santa Ynez. I had chosen Saint Agnes's name as my confirmation name, and thought maybe I ought to go there, so I wrote asking if I might come. Father Gerald answered saying they had never had a single person coming alone before, but that I was welcome, and he sent a little map. So I drove up from Malibu, and got to this heavenly place. I was invited to eat with the brothers and monks, and Father told wonderful stories as only an Irishman can do. Everyday I walked saying the Rosary, and grieving away some of the pain. I also went to to Mass each day, and had a beautiful confession with Father. There was a nun that played the violin, who would visit, and play a little in the chapel, and we became friends. I also made friends with the sweet kittys that lived there. I felt that maybe the brothers didn't like me being there, so I stayed away as much as i could. But when it came time for me to go home they were hugging me and so very kind. The only negative was the bed! It was so soft, I put the mattress on the floor at night. Being at San Lorenzo remains one one my most precious experiences.
