The St. Thomas More House of Prayer is dedicated to praying and promoting the Liturgy of the Hours. We are a Catholic retreat center in W. PA. See our website for a free online tutorial.
If you are unfamiliar with the Liturgy of the Hours, we can help you understand this particular form of liturgical prayer and appreciate why the Church encourages gatherings of the laity, "to fulfill the Church's office by celebrating part of the Liturgy of the Hours" (Vatican II).
Pope John Paul II taught on the Psalms of the Liturgy of the Hours for years, especially in the last years of his pontificate. One point that he made which was foundational in his promotion of the Liturgy of the Hours is that it is "also warmly recommended to lay people."
Now Pope Benedict XVI has picked up where he left off!
We can assist you in the mastering the "nuts and bolts" of using the prayerbook which can be a little confusing in the beginning.
You will find that learning how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours is the answer to your prayers.
Why because the Church strongly recommends it to the laity at Vatican II, in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and in the teachings of Pope John Paul II and now Pope Benedict XVI.

| Veronica W. | 1/24/2004 | | I really enjoy my retreats at the St. Thomas More House of Prayer. The facility is beautiful and the chapel is always open for private prayer. Staying there really helps one to learn how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. I also like the option of preparing my own food in the common kitchen. It is well worth your time to stay there. P.S. They have a GREAT website! |
