Wolf Creek, MT is an ideal setting for a gathering of women passionate about their writing and anxious to connect with others of like mind and heart.
With every need attended to, we open doorways to new stories, characters, techniques and friendships. We explore the deeper passions behind our writing, including what drives us to write and what stops us from being as creative as we might be.
The writing retreat is for any woman open to exploring her writing through the weave of writing, creativity and ritual that is the foundation of the retreat. This year we added a yoga component. You do not need any previous yoga experience. Cathy Eising, a certified Iyengar teacher, will incorporate simple yoga techniques that are adaptable to everyone, breathing exercises and inner focus to free ourselves of the constraints of the ego and unblock avenues of expression that lead to a deeper creativity. In addition, Cathy will teach optional daily classes.
Each day, we share a three-hour writing workshop where we "mine" first draft material for the "jewels" that hold the heat of the story. We use the "what ifs" and "what happens next" of story telling and other techniques of the short story, novel and fictionalized non-fiction. All genres are invited.
We explore creativity through guided imagery, interviewing characters, music and other techniques Emily Hanlon has developed.
We use ritual to make the intangible tangible. Ritual is particularly important for the creative person who is at home with the mysteries that are revealed through the language of dreams, symbols, images, colors, rhythms and the senses. This is writing as a spiritual journey.
