Wood Valley Temple and Retreat Center is located in Ka'u on the slopes of Mauna Loa on the Island of Hawaii.  It is a non-sectarian Buddhist retreat center open to groups and individuals.  It was founded by Nechung Rinpoche in 1973 and dedicated by HH the Dalai Lama in 1980.

The main building is a classic 100 year old Buddhist Temple. The Retreat Center is a plantation style Buddhist Temple adjacent to the main temple.  Surrounded by spacious gardens and forest in one of the most beautiful and isolated corners of the world.

A rustic mountain lodge style structure, there are three dormitories, four double rooms and three singles. All rooms have bedding and towels. This facility is ideal for individuals and small groups alike.

The temple and retreat offers a very special space for individuals and small groups who want to be in a quiet, peaceful environment to meditate, relax and reflect on life. Nested in the forest, the beautifully landscaped grounds are a natural extension of the environment with many tropical flowers, plants and exotic fruits. For those who like to hike, there are scenic walks around Wood Valley, at Punalu'u Beach and a network of trails in Volcano National Park.

Rana Parker	7/13/2006		Quiet, simple retreat house in the middle of the Hawaiian forest. I felt calm within one hour of arrival, when the monk began the evening chanting. The rooms were immaculate, the people friendly. There is a large kitchen and dining area. For only $50/night single and cooking with others at the center, you can't beat the price. A great place to really get away.
