Loretta Jean Humphrey5/11/2010My experience at The Leo House was very welcoming. It provided exactly what we needed for our stay in New York. It was quiet, and accommodating with the necessities for a few nights stay. The breakfast that is provided you cannot beat. The food was all home made, the breads, fresh pancakes, eggs, sausage, porridge, and fresh fruit, and you could not beat the cooked rhubarb. I would recommend this facility for anyone who wishes a nice quiet relaxed atmosphere, families or if you are alone, The Leo House is the place to stay.
Jessica Jacoby4/6/2010I have been at the Leo House from the 1st of March to the 11th. If I have given a rating of 2, it is because of the breakfast which was good and the kindness of sister Kathleen, otherwise it would have been lower. Not so much because I had no lamp at my bedside, or I had no cellphone service in my room, or I could not wash my hands properly because the fawcet snapped shut, if I let it go. Those things are unneccesary and annoying, but what really bothered me, was the extreme unhelpfulness, arrogance, patronizing attitude and in one case outright rudeness of the frontdesk ladies. I have stayed in many hotels, guesthouses and B&B's but I have never seen behaviour like that. The longer I stayed, the more pronounced this became. People like that would be better suited as prison wardens than in a guesthouse, where people want to feel welcome! This is why I can not recommand the Leo House.

Greg3/30/2010My wife and I visit NYC every June for our anniversary and always stay at the Leo House.  The rooms are dated but always clean and functional.  The beds are well used but comfortable with fresh linen.  The staff is always friendly and helpful and even allows us to store our bags in the lobby closet after normal checkout hours.  The breakfast buffet is the best bargain in Manhattan and a wholesome start to enjoying all Chelsea has to offer.  There are no negatives except that this type of lodging is not for the high maintenance crowd.  It is a no frills, safe, clean, comfortable, nice, place to retire after a long day in the city.
lhoeting3/26/2010leo house is a no frills place to stay...my sister and our children and i found it just right! we stayed all together in a family room and had a ball!

i am dissappointed to learn that they no longer have family rooms...i will have to think twice before i split up my family
Anita C Cansler3/21/2010My daughter and I stayed at the Leo House March 18th through the 20th and we couldn't have been happier. From the front desk to housekeeping everyone smiled and went out of their way to make our experience a pleasant one.  They pay attention to the small things like thick fluffy large towels, internet service, comfortable lounges for relaxing, extra pillows and blankets in the room and extraordinary kindness.  The security system made me feel protected, they gave excellent recommendations for dining out and secured our luggage upon arrival allowing us to sight see before our room was ready.  The facilities in our room were really clean and although our room was street side, I could not hear the outside noise.  There were alot of doors slamming in the hallway starting around 7am but no one can really control that.  I just referred to it as my wake up call. There is a drug store across the street that really came in handy and the subway is only a few yards away. I plan to revisit NY and hope that the Leo House remains just as it was when I left...exceptional!!  If you need anything, just ask for  Gabriel.    Anita C. Cansler
Bill Brandt12/26/2009I stayed there about 4 years ago and am rating it a 5 - the top. For me staying in Manhattan for 5-6 days would have been almost impossible if it weren't for the Leo House.

I stayed in a single for about $80/night - the furnishings were old, paint peeling in a few places but it was clean and you couldn't ask for a better location in Manhattan.

The nuns would fix breakfast - and bake their own bread and for a paltry $6 you could have breakfast.

A subway stop was out the door - to the right maybe 200 feet.

It is a nice clean hotel in an area where rooms are 3-5 times (and more) as much.

Rose Hanley10/2/2009I stayed there in Sept. 2009 with my 10 year old daughter.
We really enjoyed it. We felt quite safe there. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The staff are what make it a  such a pleasant place to stay. The rooms were clean, but well worn and  could use some paint and the bathrooms could be updated. The beds were good and we were quite comfortable. The common room on the main floor had hot water and ice which was handy, it leads to a nice garden. The 2nd Floor breakfast room is nice and the common room beside it is charming. It was used in filming a "Law and Order" episode if you are a fan. There is a chapel where you can pray or celebrate Mass on some days. We would like to stay here again the next time we visit New York.
Charlotte Ford9/3/2009Leo House is great value for money and in a brilliant location in Chelsea. We stayed here for almost 9 weeks after getting stranded in NYC after my partner's lung collapsed. We had a room on the 3 floor. It was simply decorated, clean and bright with A/C and private toilet, sink, t.v and phone.  We had use of a shared bathroom and pretty much had it to ourselves. Staff made us feel really at home without being at all intrusive. We are not religious and we did not feel at all out of place at Leo House. We will always remember our stay fondly! Thank you!
