Akiko's place has a feeling of being outside of time. The rain forest and curving road that leads up to a small plantation village where life definitely moves at a different pace than modern city life, feels primordial, wild. I experienced an incredible sense of being, and over the 2 1/2 months stay at Akiko's,I found myself shedding protective layers, expectations, and experiencing incredible self-acceptance. By the end of my stay I felt more transparent than I had ever been before.

I am shortly ending my 3rd stay at Akiko’s B&B in sleepy little Wailea Village just north of Hilo. It has been a rest full and peace full time. I will be back again to enjoy the special nature of this place. I have stayed in the Pu'uhonua House. Freshly painted and decorated the house has an air of sunny optimism but retains the old bones and character of the previous owners and time gone by. The house exudes a feeling of family a sense of place and being that large resorts will never have.

One of my best experiences during my visit to Akiko’s colorful, yet calming and healing surroundings was finding what I needed to prepare for another major project. I found offerings of solitude, quiet, rejuvenation, relaxation, laughter and good food. I also found unexpected spiritual messages everywhere. Her B&B is a marvelous respite that calms the mind and spirit on one hand and stirs awakenings toward creative ideas, new beginnings. Akiko’s Bed and Breakfast is an amazing place.

Everyone benefits immeasurably from a personal retreat- a time and place for living simply, breathing deeply and letting go of all worry so understanding and compassion flower. I can happily recommend Akiko’s Buddhist Bed & Breakfast located on the Big Island in Wailea Village north of Hilo. Akikos is part of Old Hawaii with its songs of birds, the scent of flowers, the constant play of sun and showers, the bells of mindfulness ringing quietly to guide your breathing.

Every once in a while, you make a choice that turns out so right you have to wonder how you were so lucky to have made it. Akiko’s is a place of simple pleasures - sharing breakfast with new friends, reading a good book on the lanai, walking through the bamboo forest to the beach, watching the stars rise and set. It is a place infused with the spirit of old Hawaii. I have traveled many places, but rarely have I encountered a place so affecting, whose presence changed how I see my daily life.
