Chenrezig Institute is a centre for Buddhist study, meditation, retreat, and practice nestled in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia.
Apart from the formal study programmes, Chenrezig Institute is a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to spend a few hours, days or weeks. Stroll along the bush paths, wander in the formal garden, sip espresso in the café, have a vegetarian meal, drop in for a meditation class or teaching, or just sit and listen to life.
Today, the Institute is home to a Tibetan Geshe (Lama), a large community of ordained Sangha (nuns and monks), students, residents, volunteers, retreatants, and guests.
As a guest or retreatant, you are able to participate in our regular teaching program which includes the Buddhist Studies Program; Discovering Buddhism course, weekend courses, and regular meditation and teaching classes. Please go to our teaching program page for more information on the program.
To support your practice; you can make an appointment with our main teacher Geshe Lobsang Jamyang as well as our Sangha (nuns and monks) to ask questions and request advice.
The centre also has an expansive library hosting books, journals, videos, and DVDs. The library can be accessed most days and evenings.
All accommodation is comfortable, and simple; with most having shared rooms and bathrooms.
Mission/Lineage: CI's mission is to transmit the Tibetan Buddhist tradition as the path to ultimate happiness and freedom from suffering.
Teachings at Chenrezig Institute are based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founder Lama Thubten Yeshe and spiritual director Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Lama Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) was the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dalai Lama is the temporal head of the Gelug school.
