...some notes from the director...We are sincerely sorry to hear this person was unhappy with her retreat. We have 12 years of positive comments on our written surveys, given to clients at the end of their stay, reviewing all aspects of their weekend retreat. =Let me explain our Retreat= It is advertised as a B&B, which is universally defined as a room-in-a-home, and most people find our place quaint and warm. (Homes in this area are on approx.2 acre mountain plots; we are across the street from the Roosevelt Natl. Forest.) The location and purpose of the retreat is clearly stated on the web site and in the "overview" email sent to all inquiring persons; with a detailed "tips" email sent upon confirmation. We emphasize the word "retreat" (not vacation) meaning that people come to clear their head & relax, and not continue to use stressful or numbing media & leave their "to do list" behind for one weekend. We purposely send the clients to different locations to show them different gorgeous areas of the Rocky Mtns.(a personalized 10 pg folder is provided with maps & tips). The four "health sessions" offered are conducted by persons who have approx. 10 years or more experience, and are certified or degreed, and need to pass my test of "loving to help people" (and not just because it's a job). Clients are advised that a car is needed. Half the clients like walking our mountain streets, and the other half go into town or the Natl. Park to do their healthy walking. We dont advertise ourselves as an elegant spa, but as a B&B retreat. The cost of the retreat is approximately half of what it would cost if done in Estes Park, or planned on your own. Our goal is to keep prices low so that a greater number of people can experience a true relaxing retreat in our beautiful Rocky Mtns.

I got the impression after reviewing the website and conferring with the owner that I'd be staying at a professional style B&B just (less than a mile or two) outside of Estes Park on its own acreage within walking distance of hiking trails. But, though the owner is very nice and attentive, the B&B is on the first floor of a private home and the accomodations are old and small. I've stayed at many resorts and B&B's stateside and overseas and this was very disappointing. It's advertised as a wellnes retreat so there is minimal access to TV and telephone, however the TV is a private TV not in a general lounge. You needed a phone card to use the phone which was also a private phone upstairs (not in the occupancy area. The location is approximately 10 miles outside of Estes and Lyons so there is no cell service for miles. This was the hardest thing since I couldn't call home in the evenings. Spa treatments were booked for me which was a part of the package, but I had to travel to get to them and the workshops advertised weren't at a professional level. Very amateurish. If you don't have your own transportation, it's difficult getting around since everything is so far away. And you don't feel comfortable walking around the home because you are walking by other people's homes. It was also very cold in the room. The heat wasn't used. It was approximately 60 degrees when I woke up. I'm from Colorado so I'm used to the cold, but I felt that if I'm paying hundreds of dollars to stay at a "retreat" I should be comfortable. I booked three nights but left after one.
